SNU Volleyball Tops Oklahoma City In Five Sets

Southern Nazarene rallied from down two sets to one to defeat Oklahoma City in five sets Monday night in Bethany.

After trailing early, the Crimson Storm (23-12 overall, 8-6 Sooner Athletic Conference) won the opening set 25-23 thanks much in part to a pair of 5-0 runs.

But, Oklahoma City won the next two sets. In the second, the Stars (18-19, 9-5) scored ten straight to take a 17-6 advantage, then held on for a 25-21 win. The third set was an easy 25-16 win.

It was tied 17-17 in the fourth set before Taryn Steele scored back to back kills to give the Crimson Storm the lead for good. SNU would go on to win the set 25-22.

Neither team held a larger lead than a single point in the fifth and final set before back-to-back errors by the Stars provided the finally 15-13 tally for Southern Nazarene.

Morgan Loewen led SNU with 16 kills and added 11 digs. Leslie Riepel had 12 kills and Steele had ten kills and 18 digs.

Lindi Lebsock led the Crimson Storm with 24 digs and also had 43 assists.

Xiaoting Ma led OCU with 22 kills and 21 digs. Alex Benbrook added 14 kills and Shelbey Veselka also had 21 digs.

Next up for both teams is the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins Friday in Lubbock, Texas. The pairings will be announced Wednesday.
